Welcome to the 1st Regt. Engr. web site. I will start with the question of, do you shoot your musket just for fun, or while having fun do you want to shoot as accurately as you can. If the answer is the second part let me help you get to that point by presenting an article written by the late Tony Bagdon. Tony was one of my best friends and shooting buddy. We always spotted for each other at the N-SSA and were both in tune with how to get the most out of a musket. As shooters we were both over the hill and out of our prime shooting offhand, but from a bench, watch out. I remember well the last time he spotted for me shooting musket, 9 shots down range at 100yds. Score 89 with about 6Xs, while coming down onto the target I was too excited and squeezed the trigger a bit too much, and I can still hear Tony say, “You didn’t want to put that one out of the scoring ring, did you?” If you invest the time you will find that hidden in that old smoke pole is some great accuracy, and maybe you’ll be the one shooting a 99!...
